Ahhh, the memories….and lots of stuff I will never remember ! Lots of Thursdays and Sunday nights for the regulars and a little bit of “tourist” watching on Saturday nights ! Rick will be missed by many, R.I.P.
For us regulars who grew up at STARCK – what a magical playground we had! “Tourist” watching (and terrorizing?) was always on the agenda for Friday and Saturday nights as were lots of other activities: seeing the same faces of our “Starck family” week after week, hanging out in the lounges of the co-ed bathrooms (it was so BRIGHT in there!), seeing some really great shows (Grace, Dead or Alive, Book of Love, 10,000 Maniacs, Pepsi & Shirley, many others), drinking “Elvis From Hell” blue drinks, dancing on the stairs or in the pit to some of THE BEST club music ever thanks to Rick and GoGo Mike (RIP – you both left a deep impression on so many of us and are terribly missed), taking a break in the coldbar (huddled in a group on the floor), and of course hitting the after-hours parties. I treasure all my Starck 12″ singles to this day – and it’s so great to see Starck touched so many others. If anyone has any detailed memories, then they really missed out…haha! In the words of Scarlet Fantastic: We have no memory tonight…we have the sun in our hair and moon in our eyes…we just don’t give a damn cuz we’re free….
Loved Starck in the mid to late 80’s. Big groups of us would make the trip from Fort Worth/TCU back in the day. And we ALWAYS got in! Starck, Clearview, 2826, Mistral, Video Bar, …. those were the days!
The Best time of my life happened at Starck Club!!! Awe, those were the days of creativity, uniqueness and too much fun!! The Best music EVER!! Thanks Rick!!, the dancing, “Loving Everyone” and ohhhh the after parties!! Roderick you were the Best Doorman Ever!!…Now I know how the ole Studio 54 crowd in NYC felt years later after enjoying such a fabulous experience that was never to be recreated!!
I just woke up from a very vivid dream about this party. Everyone was wearing the same clothes and hairstyles as they did 25 years ago. We all looked a little older, but the feeling was the same. The music was pulsing, everyone was doing that little happy Starck dance, and all was right with the world. I cannot wait to see the Club and its devotees again! Here’s to making my dreams come true!
saw the film short tonight, what a fantastic time jossey mattes, micheal salmons and i had dancing our asses off to the best music ever! are you talking about ricky hall the manger? if so he is alive and well living in mexico. jill
I was just a simple country boy from Arkansas when I moved to Dallas. I found the Starck not long after. I took a wild chance to go in full drag my first night! I stepped out of a limo with friends and we all got in right away. That night was so magical beyond imagination. My life changed from country to city boy because of the Starck. I know I was never on THE LIST but I was always let in. Was it my one piece swimsuit? I can still see Grace Jones on closing night. Nothing will ever be like the Starck! It was like Disney for adults on ecstacy………
Thanks to Darryl Wood…I was born at the Starck… I could write volumes of nights spent there over a 4 year period.
Of all the memories I’m fondest of is the ride home one night after working at the Starck and having a seriously philosophical discussion with Craig Depoi. I miss you buddy.
I can still remember the concerts; Grace Jones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dead or Alive, Prince, Chris and Cosey…
and ahhh the New Years Parties. I still have one of my old t-shirts tucked away somewhere.
I think we’ve all attempted to explain to others; in my case my wife; what it was like…it was definately a ‘you had to be there’ era.
Look forward to seeing many old friends and faces at the reunion.
I just got home from Starck Red. I was giddy as I passed through those curtains. I never thought I would get to relive those days, and I did tonight. I found my old spot at the stage and danced for hours. I have not danced so much or had that much fun in 22 years. Thanks for letting me be 24 again!
Being JUDGED “good enough” to get in the door was DEMEANING. The Starck SUCKED for that. I got in, but I felt bad for the many others who didn’t. I also, didn’t appreciate trying to take a PISS with chicks standing right behind me. I’m no prude, but some things are best left PRIVATE. Don’t get the interest in sharing toilets.
I just read that RICK HALL the infamous starck club manager died… Is that true?? I lived with him and valerie kennedy at his 610 gart gallery in oak cliff. He was a work of art…
